Tonight I can write the saddest lines by Pablo Neruda
It is a sad love poem; we can notice the sadness of the author in this poem from the title. Tonight is the right time he can write his feelings about her and how much he loved her. He loved her a lot as we can see in the lines “Tonight I can write the saddest lines. I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too”. He remembers that in nights like that they used to be together and he hold her in his arms and kissed her. He tries to get over her but he is contradictory with his thoughts and emotions because he still has feelings for her as he wrote in the lines “What does it matter that my love could not keep her. The night is shattered and she is not with me”. First he tries to convince himself that it is not so tragic that he lost her but then he says” she is not with me”. His soul is suffering that he lost her and that she is not next to him anymore, he was alone. The fact that she could be with someone else, is killing him. I think that people write down their feelings about a lost love because they want to convince themselves that it was not such a great love they thought and they want to close that chapter in their life. “Though this be the last pain that she makes me suffer and these the last verses that I write for her”. This are the last lines he wants to write for her because he does not want to suffer anymore, he just wants to forget about her
